Prep I-Day Preview
Hello USAFA Prep School Families and Friends!
Welcome to the WebGuy Prep Blog! This is the first entry for the Prep Class of 2021. This begins our tenth year of photo and blog coverage at USAFA Preparatory School. I think it is fair to say that it will be a year to remember. While our coverage is more extensive during the 20 Basic Military Training days, we will be with you with photos and commentary throughout the entire prep school year right through graduation next May. It will be a ride!
As you prepare for this next phase of life for your son or daughter, our sense of anticipation of their arrival never changes. The BMT cadre have already arrived and are getting ready themselves. Each summer the prep school BMT training cadre are made up of USAFA upper class cadets, (many whom were preppies themselves). In past years they were also supplemented by select ROTC cadets from colleges across the country. Due to the pandemic, this BMT will be a USAFA only event. The cadets are mentored by Military Training Instructors (MTI) from Lackland AFB in Texas to ensure that the training is always conducted professionally and to a standard. In short, your kids are in good hands.
This blog entry is a preview of some of what's to come on I-Day. Everything is quiet now at the community center drop off area, but come about 7:00am on Saturday the pace will pick up dramatically.
It will be different this year. In past years I-Day drop off looked like this...
This year it will look like this...
Your goodbyes will need to be said before you arrive. Don't wait till the last minute. Also, be assured that while your stay on base will be short if you are coming with your appointee, our photographers will be there to cover the whole day.
Speaking of photographers, here is some basic information about the WebGuy program to get your started off on the right foot. First, the WebGuy website where you are reading this blog has a free part and and members only part. The blog is free as is the free photo gallery where you can view some of the photos that we take of Division 1 sports at USAFA. The links to our online store and the parents portal as well as links to other parts of our main Association of Graduates website at www.usafa.org are also free. Our huge photo galleries and the unlimited free downloads of the high resolution photos we take both at the Academy and here at the Prep School all year round are a benefit of membership in the Association of Graduates (AOG), either as a Graduate Life Member, or as a Family Member through our Family Plans. Here is a link to find out more about membership. Family Memberships
Next, here is where to find the Prep School Photos. Once you have created your membership account and login to the members area of the site, if you look to the banner at the top of our page to the right of our logo, you will see some headings labeled, Blog, Classes, Galleries, Shop, & Account. To find the Prep School photos, click on the "Classes" Heading. You will see a drop down menu showing Class Years. At the bottom you can choose Prep School.
When you select Prep School, you will see the current Prep School Year Page. It is already set to Prep 20-21 Academic Year, and Presto! You will see the correct gallery. Right now there is only one folder, Prep Life. You can see photos taken at the Change of Command Ceremony for the new Preparatory School Commander, Colonel Melissa Youderian '98. Starting Saturday there will another folder for In-Processing Day and after that for Basic Military Training. As the year progresses we will add other folders.
Click on one of those folder icons and you will see all the photo thumbnails. You can either view them by most recent (newest), to oldest or the other way around. You can also mark them to save or download them to your computer. They belong to you. I hope this info is helpful.
Lastly, we have a treat for you.
For all of your Falcon Gear, please visit our online store: https://shop.usafa.org/ Now through July 20th, you will receive an additional 10% off your order using the Code PREP21. There are lots of great items to choose from, but I'm thinking this one might be of particular interest. Click on the photo and it will take you right to it to order.
That's it for this first blog entry. Safe travels to all. I hope the weather around the country cooperates. Be sure to wear your masks and be mindful of social distancing! It's important. We'll be back on Saturday with another entry and all the I-Day photo coverage. While you wait, be sure to check out the WebGuy Facebook Page and be sure to Like it. It goes hand-in-hand with this website.
