Prep School Chemistry Magic Show

On Friday last week the Prep School stopped by Pioneer Elementary School to give a Chemistry Magic Show Presentation.

The students in attendence at the Chem Magic Show were Grades 4 and 5. In both the videos and pictures below you will see a mixture of coverage from both since they had each grade attend one at a time. Prepare to be amazed! They had really good Chemistry tricks for these students and put on a great show!

For their first Chemistry Magic Trick they lit bubbles on fire.

Then they made elephant toothpaste, combining several chemicals together. The students in the audience seemed to really enjoy this one.

Their next magic trick involved blowing air through straws into these containers and the first person who was able to change it from the pink color to clear, won the race.

They talked about King Arthur and how he pulled the sword from the stone, the next trick dealt with air pressure and they had several students come up and attempt to pull the container off of the base. (See pictures below) They then showed what the loss of air pressure does to different objects, first with a balloon and then with a man made out of marshmallows.

For their next trick they demonstrated chemical changes with the colors of the rainbow, creating each color in its own glass container. Then they mixed them all together and shocked the students when the color didn't turn dark like they expected but yellowish in color. That's right - they created the "pot of gold" at the end of a rainbow.

With the help of George the Gummy Bear - they did a teleportation magic trick. George the Gummy Bear magically teleported into the pocket of one of the teachers.

The last Chemistry magic trick of the day dealt with flammable liquid and fire, to create a rocket ship!
