Class of 2022 Day 2 Air Force Fitness Assessment

The Seniors in the Spring Semester take the Air Force Fitness test instead of the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) that all other cadets will take.  The differences are: Air Force Assessment consists of push-ups, sit-ups and 1.5 mile run. The Physical Fitness Test consists of pull-ups, standing jump, sit-ups, push-ups and 600m run.

The Seniors take the Air Force Test instead of the Physical Fitness Test because this will be the test that they will need to pass every year while an active duty member in the United States Air Force.  It is a good time to see where they are on the fitness test prior to graduation and become an active duty member.

The Air Force uses an overall composite fitness score and minimum scores per component based on aerobic fitness and muscular fitness components to determine overall fitness. All components of the fitness assessment must be completed within a three-hour window on the same day.

The assessment components are comprised of the following:

  • Aerobic component evaluated by the 1.5-mile timed run
  • Muscular fitness component evaluated by the number of push-up and sit-ups completed within one minute

AEROBIC COMPONENT

Airmen not medically cleared to complete the 1.5-mile run will be assessed through an alternative aerobic test consisting of a 2-kilometer walk, as determined by the exercise physiologist/fitness program manager unless otherwise exempted. The 2.0-kilometer walk is the only authorized alternate assessment. Both the run and walk will be performed on an approved distance course.

MUSCULAR FITNESS COMPONENT

The muscular fitness components (push-ups and sit-ups) may be accomplished before or after the 1.5-mile run or 2.0-kilometer walk according to the installation FACs established procedures. Muscular fitness is measured with a 1-minute timed push-up component and a 1-minute timed sit-up component.
