Sabre Drill Team and Honor Guard Team
We caught up with the Sabre Drill Team and Honor Guard during a practice on the Tzo.
The Sabre Drill team was founded in 1961 with a hiatus from ’65 to ’69 and at one point in time they were even merged with the Honor Guard from ’03 to ’06. The mission of the USAFA Sabre Drill Team is to demonstrate professional military skills and discipline through the performance of intricate sabre manual. When we stopped by the freshman were being trained on different types of maneuvers and throws with their sabres. Below are some clips to show you more in depth! We'll be getting more coverage of the Sabre Drill team throughout the year so be sure to check back and see how they've grown!

The Honor Guard was founded in 1974 through cadets’ initiative. The mission of the USAFA Honor Guard is to function as an exhibition drill unit and to perform as color guard, flag details, funeral honors, and everything is done in demonstration of their strong sense of pride, dedication and purpose. For 4th Class Cadet’s to earn his or her spot on one of those teams, and it's not easy or a sure thing. The freshman go through periodic BCT like practices like the one we caught last week and are asked knowledge based questions as seen in the clip below - in addition to their regular training within their squadrons. We'll be getting more coverage of the Honor Guard team throughout the year as they learn maneuvers with their rifles so be sure to check back for our coverage of the Honor Guard team!
