Legion of Valor Panel
On 17 October, the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School had the honor of hosting the Legion of Valor Reunion for a special luncheon at the dining facility. This distinguished event connected cadet candidates with honorably decorated veterans across the service branches, providing a rare opportunity to bridge generations of military service.
After lunch, Legion of Valor members participated in a Combat Leadership and Life Experience panel, featuring panelists whose service spans over eight decades. These veterans shared personal stories of leadership, courage, and resilience from their time in the military. Their insights into combat and life after service left a lasting impression on cadet candidates, offering lessons that will help shape the next generation of Air Force and Space Force leaders.
The Legion of Valor was founded in 1890 by a group of Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War and Indian War Campaigns. Originally called the Medal of Honor Legion, the organization expanded to include recipients of the Army Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, and later, the Air Force Cross. In 1961, it was officially renamed the Legion of Valor of the United States of America, Inc.
The Medal of Honor is awarded for acts of gallantry and intrepidity beyond the call of duty, while the Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, and Air Force Cross recognize extraordinary heroism. Many of these prestigious decorations are awarded posthumously, a testament to the profound sacrifices made by these brave service members.
