100s Night Class of 2023

According to the USAFA website, 100s night for the first-degree (senior) cadets takes place approximately 100 nights before graduation. It is an opportunity for the class to join with the Legacy Class over a formal dinner and celebrate 100 days to graduation and commissioning as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force and Space Force. Cadets are given liberty for the weekend to celebrate, while fourth-degree (freshman) cadets “decorate” their rooms in a festive manner.

After the dinner, members of the Class of 2023 received the location of their Air Force bases following graduation. The Class of 1973 was alongside them to celebrate the momentous occasion.

The guest speaker for the evening was Gen. (Ret.) Stephen Lorenz '73. Lorenz retired as an Air Force four-star General and is currently serving as the President of the Falcon Foundation at the U.S. Air Force Academy. His last military assignment was as the Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph AFB, Texas. It included the Air Force Recruiting Service, two numbered Air Forces and Air University.

He was in charge of the training of more than 340,000 students per year, across 12 bases, more than 88,000 active duty, reserve, and guard personnel, civilians, contractors, and 1,485 trainer, fighter, and mobility aircraft. Gen. Lorenz graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1973 and attended undergraduate pilot training at Craig AFB, Ala.

He has commanded at every level, including an air refueling wing that won the 1994 Riverside Trophy for Best Wing in 15th Air Force, and an air mobility wing that won the 1995 Armstrong Trophy for Best Wing in 21st Air Force. He served at the Air Force Academy as the Commandant of Cadets and also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.

On 16 July 2010, he was awarded the Order of the Sword by AETC Airmen. He is a command pilot with 3,600 hours in 10 different aircraft.
