CATM - HELLCATS

**Range Photography Disclaimer

Due to safety restrictions at the shooting range, photographers are required to remain behind a designated yellow safety line and are not permitted to cross into the firing area. As a result, some photographs are taken from the side or other limited angles. These restrictions are in place to ensure the safety of all personnel while still allowing coverage of the training activity.

During CATM (Combat Arms Training and Maintenance) at Basic Cadet Training, members of the Class of 2030 will receive hands-on instruction in the safe handling, operation, and maintenance of military firearms. This training builds confidence, discipline, and attention to detail while reinforcing the Air Force Academy’s commitment to safety and professionalism. Cadets learn essential marksmanship fundamentals and gain an appreciation for the responsibility that comes with carrying and employing weapons as future military officers.

Basic cadets fire the Air Force Qualification Course (AFQC). If basic cadets earn an expert rating for the M-18  AFQC, they will be authorized the wear of the USAF small arms expert ribbon.

The M18 is a compact version of the Army's M17 Modular Handgun system. The M18 pistol is being issued to security forces, special warfare units and other personnel based on specific requirements. Today each basic got 50 rounds.
