Class of 2028 Exemplar Dinner
The Class of 2028 held their Exemplar dinner Thursday, Sept. 4th 2025.
The exemplar that the Class of 2028 chose was A1C John L. Levitow. Airman Levitow flew on a combat air patrol over South Vietnam in 1969. The aircraft was patrolling the city of Tan Son Nhut when the nearby Army Post at Long Sinh came under attack. The aircraft was diverted to the post in order to help its defenses. While firing at the enemy, two mortar positions were knocked out, but a mortar shell fell on top of the aircraft's right wing and exploded part of the aircraft. Airman Levitow and another crew member were knocked to the floor from the explosion and their flares were tossed into the cargo compartment. Although Airman Levitow was wounded from the explosion, he flung himself on the ignited flare to keep it from rolling further into the aircraft towards the pilots. Just in the knick of time, Airman Levitow threw the flare out of the aircraft before it had ignited more toxic smoke. Airman Levitow was awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless heroism that saved his fellow crewmembers and aircraft.
While at the dinner, Class of 2028 Class President, Madison Steel said a few words to her fellow classmates. While the Class of 2028 has only had 436 days since I-Day, Steel congratulated her fellow '28ers for completing their first year at the Academy and celebrated a strong start to their Sophmore year. Steel encouraged her classmates to continue their hardwork and dedication that is already being displayed daily.
